Contemporary Clinical Neuroscience Training

Clinical Neuroscience Training

The nervous system plays a crucial role in the function of every single organ system in the human body.

It follows that future physicians need to understand core neuroscience principles. In fact, all health providers benefit from having a basic understanding of neuroscience, particularly as it applies to clinical situations.

Providers and health care organizations alike need an accessible, effective frameworks for learning the on-the-ground essentials of neuroscience for the benefit of patients with neurological problems.

Neuro E-Consult® for Health Care Provider Training

The focus of our health care provider training is to help clarify the fundamental role of the nervous system in all health processes.

We strive for our trainees to have a foundational knowledge to effectively care for patients with neurological disorders. We also hope that our providers will be “neuro care communications ready.” This means that providers will be ready to provide relevant, compassionate medical care and guidance for people with a real or potential threat to their function and their life as they know it. This is often the situation that neurological patients find themselves grappling with.

The organizational framework of our Neuro E-Consult® health professions training model is designed to teach on the ground essentials of neuroscience needed by all providers who see neurological patients.

Our innovative clinical learning experiences tap in to how to effectively assess a person’s health through the lens of the nervous system, and how to best communicate to patients and caregivers about the nervous system in the context of most health situations.

Within our training framework, health professionals learn how to provide important treatment and guidance decisions that can ultimately decrease overall health risk of patients, at the same time reducing long-term disability for patients suffering from neurological conditions.

The focus of our training sessions are for health care trainees to learn how to reliably access and interpret neurological health information to best help their patients.

Training sessions are designed to not only illustrate basic neuroscience principles, but they guide learners to apply these principles to the broad spectrum of neurological patients.

Furthermore, core competences beyond neurological science knowledge emphasize the tenants of basic patient care and humanism. For example, emphasis on good communication during patient hand-offs, and instruction on how best to account for the total physical and mental function of a patient and caregivers is essential for providing smooth transitions and gold-standard care.

This kind of care process goes way beyond what a connected electronic health record can provide. We strive for our trainees to gain foundational knowledge about patients with neurological disorders. We also hope that our learners will be outstanding teachers for not only for the patients, but also their peers while they sharpen their neurology human-centered skills.

Neurological care literacy assessment

Health care learners are assessed via small group participation, rubric-based assessments and clinical knowledge based presentations.  These sessions can be deployed in-person and by virtual means. Our framework also provides an innovative way to produce meaningful and impactful tele-health neurology care through increasing tangible knowledge that will benefit both learners and patients

Our innovative clinical learning experience is through the lens of the nervous system so that all health care providers can best communicate to patients and caregivers about the nervous system in the context of their health. At all stages trainees may find it easier to learn and retain basic neuroscience concepts taught in the Neuro E consult® health care provider sessions.
